I am now taking registrations for the last Encaustic Wax Workshop at Beach Road Studios for the year. The date is Saturday 18 August and is starting to fill up so don't miss out...
We just completed a successful workshop on the weekend and everyone went away with a new skill and a some new artwork for their walls. Encaustic wax has a charm all of its own and once people learn to warm the wax and blend colours together the magic begins and they are hooked! it doesn't seem to matter if you are an experienced artist or a complete beginner, the medium is a great leveller - it can teach you to be loose and bold with colours and textures like no other medium. I would encourage anyone to have a go...

There is a light bulb moment in all my Encaustic Wax beginners workshops.. .There is a flurry of chatter and excitement when students first arrive... When the gasps of delight at the view and the deep breaths of clean sea air have subsided, when the sharing of coffee and cake is over, when we have learned a bit about what brought us all here and safety and the housekeeping talk is done - Its business time.... Amongst the delicious smell of bees and honey, the group learn to master the very basic step of painting hot wax onto board, they learn to fuse it with a heat gun and watch it melt and go velvety smooth.....they then get to add a second colour and learn to blend them together. Then the magic begins!!.... this is the lightbulb moment...this is when their faces light up and they are hooked. Wax Mania - the wonder of it all.... |
